Code Of Conduct

ECE12 is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive experience for participants and abides by the ECE’s diversity commitment.

Participants, including organisers, speakers, volunteers, sponsors / exhibitors, staff and other attendees are expected to abide by the following code of conduct.

Professional conduct

  • ECE12 is a professional networking experience and all attendees, including speakers, organisers, volunteers, sponsors, should be kind to, and respectful of, all.
  • ECE12 is committed to equality of opportunity, to ensure the conference experience does not discriminate against any individual on the basis of their gender, disability, ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, marital status, age, nationality or socioeconomic background, or other protected characteristics not related to scientific merit.
  • ECE12 expects a diversity of views and opinions to be welcomed by open and constructive criticism of ideas, while personal attacks (verbal or otherwise) on individuals will not be accepted.
  • Harassment, bullying or intimidation will not be tolerated, and anyone asked to stop unacceptable behaviour is expected to comply immediately. Harassment includes but is not limited to inappropriate or intimidating behaviour and language, unwelcome jokes or comments, unwanted attention, offensive images, sharing digital information without permission, and online stalking. Harassment, sexual or otherwise, is a form of misconduct that undermines the integrity of the meeting.

At ECE12, we are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants. Bullying, harassment, and sexual misconduct are contrary to ECE and UCL’s ethos, values, and mission and are never acceptable.

If you experience or witness any inappropriate behaviour, please feel free to contact any member of the Organising Committee, who are designated points of contact for support and advice.

For further details, please refer to the UCL Prevention of Bullying, Harassment and Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Recording by photo, film, or other means

  • It is prohibited to retain or share scientific material shown in any oral or poster presentations. Please contact the presenting author if you would like to take photographs of their work.
  • ECE12 follows the guidelines for consent related to pictures of a person in a public space under the EU General Data Protection Regulations. Recording via video, photograph, or other means of participants to the ECE12 is, in general, allowed as long as people are not shown in incriminatory or private situations and images are not used in a misleading or derogatory way. It is recommended that permission be sought from anyone that is identifiable on a recording.

Social media

ECE12 encourages open discussion on social media and blogging platforms during the conference. The following rules aim to provide means by which ECE12 participants can embrace social media while at the same time remaining respectful of presenting authors’ work and protecting their research output:

  • It is prohibited to retain or share any scientific material. Never post any images or video online without the authors’ explicit permission.
  • The default assumption is to allow open discussion of ECE12 oral and poster presentations on social media. However, please respect any request from authors to not disseminate the contents of their presentation.
  • The professional conduct outlined in this Code of Conduct is expected to be applied to social media.

You are invited to include the official hashtag, #ECE12, when sharing snippets of your time at the conference on social media.
